Chickadee With Thanks

We are buried in snow in my area, as is much of Canada. But, I am not complaining, instead I am creating. I am hosting the Clean and Simple Challenge today at Splitcoaststampers and I thought it fitting that the challenge be about being "chilled". I asked for Thank you card with a wintry chill look and this card is my sample for the challenge.

Being a bird owner and lover I always worry about the birds in the winter, and even more so with the amount of snow we have.

So, for my card today I decided to paint this chickadee stamp I have from WPlus9 called New Day. I did not want the leaves and berries from the stamp so in my Misti I used a marker to cover the area of the stamp I wanted and stamped several times to get a good impression. As I used black soot for this process I heat embossed the image with clear embossing powder before I painted it to set the black ink, the die cut the panel with the stitched rectangle die.

I painted the background and the bird using a mix of Daniel Smith and Winsor Newton water colours. I wanted more plums in my background, but of course when I want them I can't make them! gah!

Once I was finished with the painting I splattered on some white acrylic paint representing a flurry of snow fall. I stamped the sentiment, then attached the panel to my card base using foam tape, and yes - sequins to finish. I do love me those sequins.

Thanks so much for visiting and I would like to send everyone my wishes for a happy, healthy and creative New Year.

  2. This is just beautiful! Perfect winter illustration. I really enjoy watching the birds come to the feeders on my deck. My cats do too ( they are indoors only), it’s their Nature TV, lol.
