I adore Snowmen a lot. They have a way of making everyone who comes upon them smile, even when they are melting away.
But, a snowman with a bird, he gets top billing from me, which is why I love this Snowman so much. I love the twig arms, his shape, his funny hat and yes, the bird.
I am also playing in the Inspiration Challenge at Splitcoaststampers today, which has us visiting a washi tape site called "cutetape". This is my inspiration.
Using Arches Cold Press watercolour paper I stamped the image with VersaFine Clair ink in Nocturne and proceeded to watercolour the snowman using Daniel Smith watercolours.
For the lower parts of the Snowman I used Cerulean Blue, which I also added to the snow beneath, keeping it all relatively light.
For his hat I used a layer of Cerulean Blue then added in some Phthalo Blue (red shade). Once dry I added ink by going around the hat with my Sharpie Color Burst dark blue pen. I painted the bird using the Cerulean Blue on his face with Prussian Blue for his body.
Moving on to the Scarf and Carrot Nose I used Pyrrol Scarlet, which leans to the orange. The Pigment name is Coral Red which has some yellow in it. I am loving this colour more and more as I use it. I also added it to the buttons and his eyes. I then coloured over the twigs with my Brown Sharpie pen.
On his cheeks I added a light mix of Quinacridone Pink. I then put the panel in my mini Misti and stamped the sentiment, also from Impression Obsession, first using VersaFine Clair Belle Belle, then cleaning the stamp and stamping once with Nocturne, which tones down the darkness of an all black impression.
On a separate piece of watercolour paper I painted an inch in from each of the sides using the Cerulean Blue, adding a few layers to get the colour. Before drying I sprayed liberally with a mixture of Gold Perfect Pearls, which you can see in the picture above along with a few other pictures.
To finish I attached the snowman panel to the watercolour panel using Nuvo Adhesive, burnishing the edges to ensure good contact. I then attached the completed panels to my Gina K Design Ivory cardbase and added a few Nuvo Jewel Drops to finish up.
This was such a fun card to make, and I have little doubt you will see him a couple of times throughout this winter season.
