Hot Chocolate anyone? I am hostess for this week's Watercolour Challenge at Splitcoaststampers. I picked this video for our challenge.
As I was photographing, each time I turned the camera to shoot, the mug took on a different colour, which I just love. It is the Transparent Pyrrol Orange at work.
I drew the mug with a pencil, keeping a light touch so I would not have to rub any out. The hardest part was getting the left side figured out so I could do the right side. In any event, I finally got it done.
To watercolour I used Daniel Smith watercolours. The Transparent Pyrrol Orange on the mug with a bit of Pyrrol Scarlett on the bottom right side and handle. Burnt Umber for the Hot Chocolate along with Indian Red. Jane's Grey on the straw and a bit on the marshmallow's. I used Celestial Metallic watercolour along the bottom of the mug, around the rim and on the straw.
The first picture above had more light on it, so pretty, and this picture I did with less light so you could see the difference in the colours. I did the splatters with the Celestial metallic and added the white using Dr. Ph Martins Bleed Proof White paint. I added Burnt Umber on the marshmallows as well.
The lighter part on the mug I did by wiping the area with a damp brush when doing the first layer of watercolour. For the second layer I kept my brush away from the area slightly, then went in with a damp brush to get a clean blend.
I matted with a coral cardstock, and used Ivory for my card base, both are from Gina K. Design. I have a stamp set by Penny Black that has the perfect sentiment, which I stamped inside my card using Atelier ink from Ink on 3.
