Daffodil Watercolour

Today is Watercolour Wednesday at Splitcoaststampers and our challenge is the Daffodil. This flower is a challenge for me, I have struggled with them in the past, and can say, this is not my favourite to watercolour. Alas, that is the point of a challenge.

For this piece I used Arches Cold Press watercolour paper along with Daniel Smith watercolours.

The video that we used for today can be found here. I diverted from the video as I wanted a lone Daffodil that was a larger size.

I did however follow along with her video for the most part, but changed the colours I used. I very much wanted the Cascade Green background, so I chose colours around that colour.

For more interest I added Prussian Blue in the background as well.

On the Daffodil I used Cadmium Yellow Med., Lemon Yellow, a mixture of Cadmium Yellow Medium and Permanent Rose, and Permanent Rose along with a bit of Burnt Sienna.

Before I did the background I first painted the stems and leaves using Sap Green in a medium shade, i.e. a little bit more water to lighten the colour. At the end I added the spray leaves using Sap Green in full strength.

Once dry I did the yellow splatters using the Cadmium Yellow. It is a loose watercolour, which I am very much drawn to and I think it worked out okay.

I enjoyed painting this card and I thank you for your visit. I have added Affiliate links below for the products that I used for this card, at no extra cost to you.
