Pansy Thoughts

This stamp from Penny Black is a joy to paint. Every little detail is so perfect from the size of the flowers to the leaves. I can see I will come back to this again soon.

I decided to watercolour, no surprise there, but I will colour this with Copic Markers sometime soon.

This is also done for the Inspiration Challenge at Splitcoaststampers where we visited Homebnc.com with my inspiration coming from the photo below.

First I stamped the image using VersaFine Clair ink in Nocturne on Arches cold press 140lb. paper. All my water colouring was done using Daniel Smith Watercolours along with one Winsor Newton colour. I started with the leaves, using Diopside Genuine, a very pleasant green. I than added in Green Apatite for shadowing, and ended with Undersea Green for further detailing.

To paint the flowers I used Ultramarine Violet, doing a couple of layers until I liked the colour. I then added the Winsor Newton Violet Dioxazine, which is a much deeper violet and a colour I love.

As the piece dried I added Jane's Grey under the plant as a grounding then stamped the sentiment using the Nocturne ink again.

Once dry I did splatters using Midas Touch Shimmering Pen and the Ultramarine Violet. To finish the piece, I ran around the edges with my EK Success Pen in Gold, then went over that with the Midas Touch Shimmering Pen. It looks fabulous IRL.

To attach to my deep purple card base I attached foam tape to the back of the watercolour piece. I really liked the look as it was so decided against anything further such as sequins. I did add some extra Midas Touch Shimmering Pen to the flower centres.
