It is Watercolour Wednesday time at Splitcoaststampers. Our challenge this week is to paint wildflowers in a jar. I just so happen to have received this Penny Black image a week or so ago, so I thought I would use it for the challenge. We have had many ask if they can use stamps, or do they have to do the watercolour all freehand. Stamps are of course allowed.
I wanted a no line watercolour, so on a piece of Arches 140lb cold press watercolour paper cut to 5 x 7, I stamped the image using Distress Ink in Antique Linen.
I then stamped the jar using Distress Ink in Peacock Feathers. The reasoning is that I pulled the peacock feathers into the jar, using it for water. I added a bit of Cascade Green Genuine to the jar as well.
Using the colours noted below I then painted the rest of the image. Some lavenders, oranges and yellows and manganese blue too. The larger leaves are done using Cascade Green and Green Apatite.
The larger flower top left is done using Quinacridone Coral. And the other orange flowers are the Transparent Pyrrol Orange mixed with Hansa Yellow.
For the shading and base I used Daniel Smith Sleeping Beauty Turquoise Genuine.
I had a lot of fun using the stamp instead of freehand, it is a nice change of pace.
