This is "Red Squirrel".
On Facebook I follow along with the Community Manager at Splitcoaststampers.com, Lydia, who has made friends with numerous squirrels in her neighbourhood. Her first was named Clarence, and he is as cute as can be, as are the squirrels who have followed.
So, when I came across this video, while looking for a challenge for the watercolour group at Splitcoaststampers, I stopped looking.
The video is by one of my favourite artists, Paul Clark. I love the way he paints and I love how fun he makes it.
I went a little overboard with the tail, but sometimes their tails are so big and fluffy it is like they are taking over the squirrel entirely.
I used the same colours as Paul used, except I added in a few others, like Phthalo Green (Blue Shade). But for the most part they are the same, including the mixing.
Even with my fluffy tail, I am happy with my painting, which is rare for me. This little fellow makes me smile.
My watercolour paper is Arches cold press 140 lb. I did not tape off the paper as I did not want any white edges, I wanted the painting to take up most of the card.
Thank you for joining me today.
For this card I used Daniel Smith watercolours, except for the Venetian Red where I used Schmincke.
