This is "Flowers and Grasses".
This card I did for Watercolour Wednesday at Splitcoaststampers.com where we watched a video by Artist Wendy Powell-Jones.
The point of the video was to show dry brushing. Well, I ran out of cold press watercolour paper, leaving me with hot press only. It is a losing battle to try and do this technique using hot press paper. So I concentrated on the grasses instead.
First I added Winsor Newton masking liquid to areas around the bottom of the painting for future flowers and gave the paper time to dry.
To start my painting I used a watered down Hansa Yellow for the bottom of the painting and Rose of Ultramarine for the top area of the painting.
Using a #8 Escoda brush I started adding the grasses. I then moved to a #6 Escoda brush for thinner lines. I did use my brushes on their sides to obtain the thicker areas of the background.
I draped the grasses, and broke some as well. For colours I used Daniel Smith Deep Sap Green, Sap Green, Green Apatite Genuine, Cascade Green, Hookers Green and Green Gold.Once the grasses were complete I peeled away the masking fluid and painted the area white using Bleed Proof White watercolour. To the flower centres I added Hansa Yellow. I then did a controlled splatter with Pyrrol Scarlett.
To finish I glued my painting to a trimmed piece of foam, then glued the piece to my card base, which is Sweet Basil cardstock from Taylored Expressions.
