Hearts Day Wishes.

When I sat down at my desk this morning my intention was to make some backgrounds. I started with this sweet stencil from A Colorful Life Design, then kept going.

I added the colour to the stencil at the same time as I added Transparent Gloss Texture Paste.

I am using watercolour paper today as my intent was to watercolour, however midway we had a change. Usually I would use regular white cardstock. I rolled up a piece of tape and placed it behind it to ensure the piece would not move. I then topped the paper with the stencil and taped it down catching the stencil along with my work surface.

Using Ink on 3 Atelier ink in Marilyn Red I applied the ink to the stencil. Some of the ink was also added to the cardstock during this process, which is fine. I then applied my Transparent Gloss paste using a stencil tool.

As the paste is wet it takes the ink with it, so the background is inked and embossed together as you can see from the photo above.

I immediately removed the stencil and washed it and set the piece aside to dry.

In this picture the highlighted areas show a couple of the mistakes with my stencilling. I don’t worry when and if this happens, my motto is just work with it. From the finished card you can see I ignored it. And, you can also see at the top the shine that the transparent gloss paste gives the hearts.

In my mini Misti I then stamped my image using VersaFine Clair ink in Nocturne Using my Nuvo Aqua Flow Pens I water coloured the image.

The colours I used to paint the bear are Cinnamon Stick from the Arabian Nights Collection, Rustic Oak from the Autumn Woodland Collection and Flamingo Pink from the Surprise Party Collection. The light pink on the cheeks and candy box is the Flamingo Pink watered down. The heart balloon is the Flamingo Pink direct to paper. And the candies and box bow were done with Gold Wink of Stella.

In the photo above you can see the differences in the colours achieved with the Nuvo Pens when watered down and full colour direct to paper.

To put the card together I am using a white card base, tent fold. I added the red matting using Gina K. Design Red Cherry cardstock, then attached my heart panel. I then die cut Penny Black’s Stitched Stackers die using white card stock, and cut out two pieces to use for partial framing, attaching with foam squares. This idea came from a card I saw Jill from Penny Black do over the holidays.

Using foam squares I attached the bear to the card. In my mini Misti I stamped the sentiment using VersaFine Clair ink in Tulip Red and attached to the card again using foam squares. I added white highlights to the balloon with white gel pen.

Well, I never got to those other backgrounds, but I had fun doing this card instead.

Thank you for dropping by. Following are Affiliate Links for the products that I have used on today’s card, at no cost to you.

  1. This is such an adorable card, Kia! The teddy bear is super cute, holding the shiny red balloon, and I love the heart stenciled and gel pasted background! The texture and shine of the gel is so pretty. The partial framing is cool and unique, too.
