Mittens & Valentine.

When starting this card I knew I wanted to use my Penny Black Mitten stamp and I knew I would keep it in the red, as shown on the packaging and because this would be a Valentine card for a special friend.

The mittens are used and the colour as they have a special meaning between my friend and I, which makes this more personal for her. But now that it is done, I really like it and I like the idea.

To colour I am using my Nuvo Aqua Flow Pens, being the Apple Red from the Summer Holiday Set and the French Wine from the Arabian Nights Collection and the Black from the Winter Skies Collection, which I watered down and used for the grey on the mitten cuffs.

In my mini Misti I arranged the stamp and using Fabriano Hot Press watercolour paper I coloured the stamp and stamped the image. I did not add any further water, as the pens held enough liquid for my process.

With a damp watercolour brush I moved the colour on my paper. I did this a couple of times with the red, then added in the wine colour. With the wine I turned my brush on its side to get the textures you an see in the pictures, which almost looks like the mittens are wet.

Setting the mittens aside to dry I moved on to stencilling my background panel. I first die cut the panel using my Birch Press Sweetheart Layers Die. Then using my Stay-tion to keep everything in place I stencilled using A Colorful Life Designs Stencil called Cute Love and Stampendous Pearlescent Embossing Paste.

When the hearts panel was dry I splattered with a fine layer of the Apple Red Aqua Pen along with the Nuvo Aqua Shimmering Pen.

I then added two of the stencil hearts to the mittens using the same embossing paste. I did not want them to pop, I wanted them to be very subtle which is achieved with the Pearlescent paste.

To put my card together I matted the heart panel with red and adhered to my card base. I then fussy cut the mittens, styled them a bit and attached to the card using foam squares. I then went around the edges with Nuvo Deluxe glue and with a toothpick tucked the glue in between each of the die cuts, as there is no tape glue in this area and I don’t want it to curl up, or buckle, which will happen without the glue.

For my sentiment I used the I Adore You from the American Crafts set stamping with VersaFine Clair Ink in Nocturne. Of course, any sentiment can be used. I then added a scattering of gems and sequins.
