This is Sun Dance.

I am back today to share this card using a new to me stamp from Picket Fence Studios called Face the Sun.

This is a large stamp, which I love a lot. The large stamps speak to me, saying I am here, now what are you going to do with me. I decided today I would watercolour with my personal watercolour palette.

I am using Arches 140lb Cold Press Watercolour Paper. I was not planning on any heat embossing, where I would use a Hot Press Watercolour Paper. When using the cold press paper it requires a few passes when using my Misti, to ensure all the ink is transferred to the paper. To stamp I used VersaFine Clair Ink in Pinecone.

I have a lot of layers here. I started with the flowers, laying down a light layer of Naples Yellow on all the flower petals. I then added Lemon Yellow followed by Yellow Orange at the base and along some veins. I then added New Gamboge to the veins and at the base and finished with touches of Winsor Orange.

For the leaves I used Sap Green and a mixture of Sap Green plus Phthalo Blue combined. On the long stalk on the left side I took a damp synthetic brush and picked up some of the paint to lighten that area. The reason I used a synthetic brush is they are normally stiffer than a sable brush, which is what I was using for my watercolouring.

To do the background I started with a light layer of the Lemon Yellow and while still damp added in the Phthalo Green, along with bits of Sap Green.

Once my watercolour was dry I stamped the sentiment using the VersaFine Clair Ink in the Pinecone again. I attached the panel to my card base using Scor-pal Tape (Be Creative).

It took awhile to paint as I always like to let my colours dry naturally, but I feel the colours stay more vibrant this way.
