It is that time again for Watercolour Wednesday over at Splitcoaststampers. Our challenge this week is to use salt.
This is my 3rd attack at using salt. We have never got along together, salt and me, and today’s attempts were utter failures for the most part. I was losing my patience somewhat by the time push came to shove and I have to get moving and photograph. So, even though it was still slightly wet, off the salt came.
I did manage to get the rings, and actually I am happy I did not get the white that sheds from the salt, I was left with the turquoise colour instead. I will remember to get rid of it before it is dry should I ever do this technique in the future.
My background is a wash on Arches Cold Press 140lb. cold press paper, using Schmincke Watercolours in May Green and Cobalt Turquoise.
The background of the butterfly under the stamped layer is done using Daniel Smith Manganese Blue and the salt. This is the one I got white rings on, so I used it to stamp the polka dot background using the turquoise paint. It took on more of the blue underneath, a cool look I think.
I stamped the centre of the butterfly using VersaFine Clair ink in Nocture, then positioned the butterfly wings in place and stamped the centre again. I also stamped the two bitty butterflies and the sentiment.
To put it all together I matted my watercolour piece with a turquoise cardstock, then attached it to a Neenah cardbase, and finished off with a few Nuvo Crystal Drops.
I do like how it turned out, even though it took me awhile to get here.
