Roses say

A change of pace for today as it is Saturday and you know that means I partake in the Inspiration Challenge held at Splitcoaststampers. This week we had a browse at a really neat shop called Lia Griffith. To give you an idea of what the site is about, her tag line is Craft Your Life. Needless to say, a lot of beauty here.

For my card I was inspired by the beautiful Roses found here.

I never get roses, but if I did I would want a vase full of different colours of roses. So that is how I painted my card. This could work for a Mother's Day card too, but I made it for a dear friend who is battling Breast Cancer for the second time.

To start I decided on a blue card base. I wanted it to be on the dark side, but I also did not want it to be just paper! I decided I would dry emboss a piece of the same card stock and glue part of my framing to the piece. It appears that the embossing is done just inside the frame, even though it is a separate piece of card stock.

1. Die cut the main frame and background frame piece using Arches 140lb Cold Press Watercolour Paper. Make two puddles of Oxide Inks, one being Blueprint Sketch and the other Wilted Violet. I sprayed the frames with water then taped into each of the mixtures in different spots, then set aside to dry.

2. In my mini Misti I stamped my image using VersaFine Clair Ink in Nocturne, again using the Arches Cold Press Watercolour Paper and proceeded to colour using my Nuvo Aqua Flow Pens in various colours.

3. To watercolour the vase I treated it like it is crystal with a variety of colour, using the Distress Oxide Inks.

4. I have a thing about white space that glares at me, i.e. blank spaces where there is not a rose but supposedly the background. I cannot leave it white, especially when using such a dark background. So I mixed the Wilted Violet and Blueprint Sketch together and painted in these pieces of the flower.

5. To put the card together I glued the larger frame to the embossed piece of card stock using Nuvo Adhesive. On the smaller frame piece I attached a piece of fun foam using Scor-pal Tape and attached to the card. I then styled the flower portion only of the image and added a couple of foam squares, along with Nuvo Adhesive at the bottom of the vase and attached it to the card.

6. Finally I finished up with Nuvo Shimmering Pen on the flowers and Nuvo Glitter Gloss on the vase, and stamped the "love you" using VersaFine Ink in Paradise.

I hope you have enjoyed this card today. Following are Affiliate Links for the products that I have used for this card, at no extra cost to you.
